Malpas RFC 9 Crickhowell RFC 31
In their first game of 2020, crickhowell RFC travelled down to take on Malpas RFC.
The game started with both sides being quite evenly matched but with Crick just getting the upper hand. The first try of the game went to Crick’s Mitch Collacott who drove through and crossed the line with outside-half Tom Keane converting. Indiscipline on Crickhowell’s side gifted Malpas a penalty and allowed them to reduce their deficit to four points. Not long afterwards, however, young Morgan Vaughan was passed the ball on the wing. He cut inside and used his strength to power through opponents and touch down. With Crick’s forwards dominating the scrum, it was from this set piece in the Malpas 22 that saw lock Lewis Logan break out and score Crick’s third. Malpas took full advantage of their visitor’s errors and slotted over another two penalties before half-time, leaving the score at the break at 9-17.
After the re-start Crick were awarded a penalty try after persistent infringements by the home team and the match was rounded off by Lewis Logan, securing his second try of the game and Keane once again converting.
