Another Friend Lost

We were saddened to hear that one of the original Britannians, Raife Kingdon, had passed away this week. Tall and strong, Raife played in the second row for us in the early years. At our first Annual Dinner he was awarded Most Improved Player. Our deepest condolences to Dawn and family.

Parc Broyd welcomes Pontllanfraith RFC  this Saturday!

We’ve had plenty of battles with these boys over the past couple of seasons — always a tough, physical encounter.

Looking forward to a big turnout from our Vice Presidents, who’ll be holding their first lunch of the season before the game.

This one’s for you, lads!

Despite the challenging weather, Oakdale band Crickhowell served up an engaging and hard-fought contest on Saturday. Both sides adapted admirably to the difficult conditions, producing a game that was competitive throughout.

A very late opportunist try from Oakdale added a touch of gloss to the final scoreline, making the victory appear more one-sided than it truly was. Crickhowell battled well, securing several impressive turnovers and showing strong defensive organisation. Their commitment and work rate will give them plenty of confidence heading into next week’s home fixture against Pontllanfraith.

Opinion from the sideline this week!

That. Was. Immense!

All of Crickhowell should be proud of that win.

Both sides played some brilliant rugby. Crickhowell deserved the win. Every single player, coach and volunteer – take a bow.

Squad v Llanhilleth Div 4 Cup

The Club travel to Llanhilleth RFC this weekend for the start of the Division 4 Cup campaign. After a great all round performance last Saturday the boys look to push on to make sure they are in the draw for the second round come Monday morning!

📍 Llanhilleth RFC, NP13 2RX

🕝 Kick-off: 2:30pm – Saturday 27th September

Div 4 cup Round 1
League 4E table at 20/09/25

Coach Jonny – “We are a delighted with the performance Saturday in the wet. I thought the skill set in the rain was outstanding from 1-20. We spoke about expressing ourselves, and testing our skills and still playing some rugby in the conditions, and the boys did that. As always the set piece was neat and tidy, giving us the platform to play. I thought our balance between playing and kicking was also excellent. Lastly, defence was a big focus for us in pre season, and I’m chuffed to see the lads buy into what we want, and see that appetite to keep them to nil. Don’t know when that was last done at Parc Broyd.”

Sad News

Our condolences to the family of Andrew Williams, who passed away today (18th. September). I believe it was Andrew’s idea to stage a rugby match between the top and bottom bars of the Britannia Inn that re-kindled interest in rugby in Crickhowell and led to the re-formation of the club after 40-odd years. He is shown here in the first official game of Crickhowell RFC versus Caerleon in the early 1980’s

Andrew Williams

Saturday saw the start of Crickhowell’s league campaign over in Tredegar. Crickhowell weathered an early storm to breakaway with a try from deep from the excellent Harry Summers. Crickhowell who had very little possession early on, again took a rare opportunity in the Tredegar 22, with a great finish from Ieuan Evans. Tredegar dominated the middle period of the game , chasing the Crickhowell 12-0 lead down to going 13-12 up with 15 mins to go. Crickhowell showed great fight to find a try to win the game, a fantastic solo effort from Ethan Maddy, an effort that will be hard to beat this year, rounding a solid game for the winger.

Jonny said “ We are delighted to get the win, I think it’s the first opening day win for 3 seasons so we are pleased, although we really didn’t get out of second gear. Ethan Maddy was excellent all day with his energy and work ethic, and Lewis Logan dragged his men through it in that messy middle period, carrying well and knocking them backwards. Big physical challenge awaits the boys now back at home Saturday, where we will need to be better to get the result.”

ON YER BIKE!

This Saturday is our annual Brecon to Crickhowell bike ride along the M & B canal. 🚴‍♀️ This ride, organised by the players, has been hugely successful over the past several years. This form of riding is known as canal speedway and riders can be identified by their colourful range of “beer goggles” worn for safety reasons 😵‍💫. Contenders will meet at 9am at Parc Broyd, to leave in transport for the start at Brecon, and finish back at Dragon Pavillion in time for the Wales V Scotland game ( ie this years W V S game ). Entry is £10 a bike. If you would like further information just email us.

A win last Saturday

We ran out the victors against a gritty New Tredegar side in our St. David’s Day friendly, helped by the fact that they were reduced to. 14 men after a red card relatively early on in the match.
